We understand that skincare is a very personal experience, and we know that once you find something that works well for your skin, it can be hard to switch to something else. That's why we want Phyla to be your go-to system for your skincare needs.
For optimal results, we recommend using the Phyla system on its own. By doing so, you'll reduce the number of ingredients your skin is exposed to, and you'll give our phages the best possible chance to work their magic. This will help to recalibrate your microbiome and keep those pesky breakouts at bay.
Choosing the right sunscreen is important. We recommend a mineral-based sunscreen like zinc oxide.
There are different types such as lotions, sticks, powders, and sprays. Liquid and stick sunscreens are easy to use and ensure coverage. Powder sunscreens are convenient for on-the-go use, while sprays are more sheer but can be dangerous to inhale nanoparticles.
It's also important to be mindful of ingredients. Some ingredients can harm the environment, so avoid substances in your sunscreen such as Oxybenzone.
We take pride in crafting all our formulations in the San Francisco Bay Area, California, USA. Our proprietary bacteriophages are carefully produced in small batches, meeting our high standards at our local manufacturing facility located in Sonoma County.
Our unique Phortify Phage Serum is formulated with live phages, which require refrigeration when not in use.
If traveling, you can leave the Phortify Serum at room temperature for a week or two off without worry, but we suggest putting it back in the fridge to keep it fresh for up to 6 months.
Although some customers may experience rapid acne relief with our system, we strongly advise using our products as a consistent part of your long-term skincare routine.
Skincare operates on a deeper, cellular level, and real changes in your skin typically appear after one to three months of dedicated use.
This is due to the skin cell turnover rate of approximately 28 days, with two months of consistent use allowing for two cycles of turnover, giving the product enough time to penetrate the dermis.
Acne is a persistent skin condition that requires time and patience to improve. For optimal results, we recommend using the Phyla system twice daily to establish a healthy microbiome and reduce the risk of recurrence.
Although we did not observe any negative reactions in our clinical study, such as redness or irritation, it is possible for your skin to have a temporary increase in breakouts during the recalibration of your skin microbiome.
As with any new skincare treatment, the bacteria on your skin may need to readjust to the new regimen. Due to the unique composition of each individual's skin microbiome, no two microbiomes will respond in the same way to this recalibration.
During the initial 60 days, an increase in breakouts may occur, this is a normal sign that the serum is effectively reducing the overgrowth of harmful bacteria and restoring balance to your microbiome.
According to dermatologists, the temporary increase in breakouts usually subsides within 4-5 weeks of starting a new skincare regimen. We advise using Phyla for the entire two months to achieve optimal outcomes, as this allows sufficient time for the microbiome to recalibrate and the serum to work its magic.
For severe or chronic acne that has persisted for a long time, the microbiome may take longer to recalibrate, and results may not be as rapid as seen with milder cases.
In this situation, we suggest using the entire Phyla system consistently (twice daily) for at least 2-3 months. It's possible that your acne may initially worsen before improving, but rest assured that you won't experience the dryness, redness, or irritation commonly associated with traditional acne products.
Phyla is specifically designed to target Cutibacterium acnes, the bacteria responsible for acne. It's important to note that if you are experiencing fungal acne, which is caused by a fungus (usually Malassezia, the same fungus that causes dandruff), Phyla may not be effective in treating it.
However, using Phyla can still benefit your skin by promoting a diverse microbiome and supporting a healthy skin barrier. If you are concerned about fungal acne, we recommend reading our blog post on the topic for more information and treatment options.
Acne and rosacea are both caused by bacterial overgrowth; however, they are caused by different types of bacteria. Specifically, Phyla targets the acne-causing bacteria, Cutibacterium acnes. In cases where rosacea causes acne-like bumps and is severe, it is often caused by a different bacteria called Bacillus oleronius.
Although Phyla won't target Bacillus oleronius, it is safe to use for those with rosacea or sensitive skin. It will still help promote a healthier skin barrier and increase your microbiome diversity.
While Phyla is generally non-irritating and safe to use during pregnancy and while breastfeeding, we recommend consulting with your doctor before using any skincare products during this time.
It's always best to err on the side of caution when it comes to your health and that of your baby.
We formulate our products with the intention of being gentle on the skin. While we cannot guarantee how a specific treatment will interact with our products, we have designed our skincare line to not interfere with other health treatments you may be undergoing. Nevertheless, we recommend consulting with your doctor before using our products.
The Phyla system is meant to be used as soon as you receive it and completed within two months as part of your daily skincare routine.
- The Phresh Cleanser has an expiration date indicated on the bottom of the bottle.
- The Phortify Phage Serum contains live phages, and we suggest that you refrigerate it instead of storing it at room temperature.
- The Phluff Moisturizer is shelf-stable for approximately one year.
Most probiotic skincare brands use dead, ground-up yogurt bacteria, which can be identified by terms like 'lysate', 'ferment', or 'extract' in the probiotic ingredient label. There are very few skincare products that contain live bacteria, and those that do are typically derived from yogurt or soil.
However, our phage is a living microorganism that is sourced directly from healthy skin and targets acne-causing bacteria. This makes us the world's first true skin probiotic, designed specifically for promoting healthy skin.
If you have an allergic reaction, please seek medical attention immediately. In addition, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org as soon as possible, and we will promptly assist you in resolving the issue.
Although we adhere to all relevant FDA guidelines, our phage serum and other products are not FDA approved drugs. However, they fully comply with the FDA regulations for OTC products.
Our products do not contain sunscreen. We advise using a sunscreen during the day to protect your skin if you will be exposed to the sun.
Yes! Our products are certified vegan and cruelty-free by the Leaping Bunny Program and PETA’s Beauty Without Bunnies Program. Additionally, our lab facilities are entirely free of animal components.
Our acne care line features a proprietary bacteriophage that targets the bacteria responsible for acne on the skin. We intentionally kept the product simple in design, focused solely on rebalancing the skin and promoting the growth of non-acne causing bacteria.
Our Phortify Serum is the only product in the line that contains the phage, while the other two products are formulated to support and maintain a healthy skin microbiome.
All of our products are fragrance-free.
Our Phortify Phage Serum is unscented, and our Phluff Moisturizer is lightly scented with a natural citrus blossom oil.

A probiotic is defined as microorganisms that, when administered in sufficient quantities, provide a health benefit to the host.
Phages are a type of microorganism that are currently being studied for their role in our health. As phages do not have their own separate classification, and they fit the definition of a probiotic well, we refer to them as a probiotic to avoid using obscure terms.
While some argue that phages are viruses and therefore somewhere between living and non-living, it is worth noting that probiotics we take in pill form are not 'alive' in the pill as they are in a dormant state, only becoming active once they reach the gut. Similarly, the phages in our serum are dormant and only activate when they encounter acne-associated bacteria.
Although our technology is patent pending and proprietary, we believe in sharing information about bacteriophages to raise awareness of why we use this approach to combat chronic skin conditions caused by bacteria. Our blog contains a wealth of information on this topic.
We have filed key patents for our unique phages (patent pending), and no other acne product on the market currently contains this technology. Additionally, we are conducting a systematic trial to quantify the effects of our products, building on the results of our early testing. We are also developing several other products that target other inflammatory skin problems such as eczema.
We have created a unique blend of ingredients that you can find in our Phortify Serum, which is responsible for keeping the phage alive. Our team formulated this serum from scratch as there has been no prior use of live phages in skincare products. Each ingredient underwent rigorous testing to ensure that it would maintain the potency of our probiotic.
After 4 years of research, we are proud to have a serum with live phages that is also shelf-stable.
We are pleased to offer shipping to all 50 states in the US and Canada. However, we kindly ask for your patience with delivery times to Hawaii, Alaska, and Canada, as these locations may experience longer shipping times.

The frozen products are safe to use. We recommend thawing them in the refrigerator overnight, as the phages are not affected. In fact, phages are commonly frozen for safe long-term storage.
We have conducted numerous tests to ensure that our products remain effective even during transportation in warm temperatures.
Although our Phortify Serum should be refrigerated when not in use, it can still maintain its stability for a few weeks without refrigeration.
Returns & Exchanges
To achieve optimal results, we kindly request you use the Phyla system twice daily for at least 60 days. Clear skin may appear in the first few weeks, but some may experience an increase in breakouts during the first 60 days. This means the serum is working to reduce bad bacteria and balance your skin microbiome. For long-term improvement, use Phyla for the full two months.
If you don't see improvement after 60 days, contact us for a refund within 60-90 days of your first order delivery. We'll issue a 50% refund for your first order. Please note, we only accept one return per product purchased. If you have any questions, please reach out to us.
If you receive damaged or incorrectly shipped items, we will replace or exchange them for you free of charge. However, you must file a claim within 7 business days of receiving the products.
